I'm a tax preparer moving into retirement, and am encouraging a number of my clients to consider preparing their own returns rather than seeking out another preparer. Naturally they usually ask me to recommend an off-the-shelf product. I generally tell them that Turbo Tax and H&R Block both provide good programs. I'm not thoroughly familiar with either, and am not inclined to become an expert on the products. I have looked at them, sometimes with genuine respect and at other times with amusement when I see how they can occasionally unintentionally mislead the user with poorly written instructions & tax terms. I also know many tax preparers who make a pretty good living cleaning up the messes some people make with their self-prepared returns. Nevertheless, I need to tell the clients SOMETHING. We have lots of self-preparers on here, so would anyone care to comment on their choice of personal tax preparation software?
Please help.
